This wine’s cachet is hardly surprising when you consider the source. It hails from Cantine Due Palme, a winemaking cooperative founded by three-time Vinitaly Winemaker of the Year Angelo Maci (below). Nowadays, his daughter Melissa is President, while his grandson Francesco assists the new head winemaker, Vincenzo Campanella, in the cellar.

Primitivo, a cousin of California’s fruit-packed Zinfandel, is the godfather of southern Italian grapes.
