La Multa Albilla Sobre Lías 2024

Made from 100% Albilla, La Multa Albilla Sobre Lías is a rare gem from Spain’s Manchuela region. With a sensationally smooth, rounded mouthfeel, it offers intense yet creamy citrus tones that’ll have you reaching for another sip.

The wine comes courtesy of none other than Norrel Robertson, one of only a handful of Masters of Wine in Spain. (Though, you may know him more as “the Flying Scotsman,” a nickname he earned years ago due to his pension for working vines and making wine in far-flung regions around the world.)

Upon settling in Calatayud in 2003, he fell in love with the area’s ancient, high-grown vineyards—especially those he’d find in abandoned sites set back in the hills. That’s where he discovered a few rows of Albilla (also confusingly called Albillo), an uncommon, ancient grape variety that’s largely relegated to blends in this day and age.

But leave it to Norrel to buck convention: He used the whole lot of fruit he found to make this varietal expression, aging it on its lees 12 long months to add to oomph and releasing just a small allocation.
