Holmes Cay Rum Traditionnel Single Origin “Reunion Island” 750ml

Holmes Cay’s latest Single Origin Edition is a rhum traditionnel from Ile de la Réunion, or Réunion Island, a French department located directly east of Madagascar in the Indian Ocean. Rhum traditionnel is a legally protected style of rum with its own geographical indication, much like rhum agricole or grand arôme, produced in accordance with a strict set of guidelines. Like 99% of the rum produced on Réunion Island, this rhum traditionnel is made from molasses, and while this style hasn’t been readily available in the US for decades, it recalls a time before French rum was synonymous with rhum agricole. Ideal for Trader Vic and Donn Beach cocktails from the 1950s that called for “Martinique rum,” this is already being hailed as “the best currently available choice to substitute for a Martinique rum in vintage tiki recipes,” by Minimalist Tiki and Modern Caribbean Rum author, Matt Pietrek.
