The 2021 Chateauneuf du Pape La Combe des Fous is its usual assemblage of 60% old-vine Grenache from a sandy sector of La Crau, plus 20% Syrah, 10% Cinsault and 10% Vaccarese. Featuring soaring aromatics this vintage, it offers up hints of orange zest and Campari-like spice layered over ripe cherries and raspberries. It’s full-bodied but wonderfully airy and silky in feel, accented by peppery spice on the long, lingering finish.
