The 2015 Finca Terrerazo wants to showcase the Bobal with the expression of the limestone soils and the landscape of their estate property, which was one of the first single-vineyard appellations in Spain. These Bobal vines were planted between 1945 and 1970 on very poor soils and are dry farmed. The destemmed and lightly crushed grapes fermented in 3,500- and 5,000-liter oak vats with indigenous yeasts, and the wine matured in oak vats and barriques for 14 months, a shorter time than the 2014, when the élevage was extended to 20 months. There is no Quincha Corral in 2015, so this is the top of the range for this year. 2015 is a classical Mediterranean vintage, and they managed to produce a very fine wine, with tannins that are more polished than those from 2014. The idea is to age part of the wine in concrete, but this already has a larger percentage of oak vats instead of barriques, and the oak feels better integrated. This is one of the finest Bobal wines around. 27,500 bottles were filled in May 2017.

      Bobal

Bobal is a red grape variety native to the Utiel-Requena region in Spain, known for its deep color, rustic character, and ability to thrive in hot, arid climates. It produces wines that are robust and full-bodied, with flavors of dark berries such as blackberry and plum, often accompanied by hints of herbs and spices. Bobal wines are typically rich in tannins and have a good level of acidity, offering structure and aging potential. What makes Bobal unique is its resilience; it can withstand the intense heat of the Spanish plains while maintaining its grape quality, making it a reliable choice for sustainable viticulture. The grape’s prominence in the Utiel-Requena DO highlights its importance in the region’s winemaking traditions, where it contributes to both single-varietal and blended wines, showcasing its versatility and distinctiveness in the world of Spanish wines.
