It can pay to have friends in high places. Winemaker Giorgio Flessati has earned a reputation for his groundbreaking work in Chile’s Elqui Valley. But when a colleague in the nearby Limarí Valley was left unexpectedly with excess grapes, he swooped in to try his hand at the area’s terroir. The result is Aymura Chardonnay, a mountain-fresh, melon-accented white that’s sure to delight.

Just one degree of latitude south of Elqui Valley, the Limarí Valley is known for similarly dry, arid conditions, abundant sunshine and high-altitude vineyards. But there’s one big difference: limestone soil.

Rarely seen anywhere in Chile, these soils are the result of ancient tectonic activity—like earthquakes and volcanic eruptions—that raised seabeds to higher elevations. Glaciers and rivers then dispersed pockets of limestone across the region, contributing to vibrancy and mineral texture to wines produced from them.

The Chardonnay for this wine was picked from a remote site, sorted by hand to ensure only quality fruit would be used and cold-fermented to preserve brightness. You can look forward to generous aromas of ripe melon and tropical fruit and a persistent palate of vibrant melon, green apple and mineral notes.
