Billionaire brothers Martin and Olivier Bouygues’ are at the helm of Montrose, which is the definition of a Super Second—an establishment that rivals Bordeaux’s five First Growths.

The Montrose vineyard comprises a huge chunk of land, set right up against an estuary in Saint-Estèphe. The proximity to the soothing breezes of the Gironde protects vines from frost damage in early spring and helps temper the summer heat, postponing the call to harvest, and making for a consistent, terrifically concentrated blend year in and year out.

Montrose is, as William Kelley of the Wine Advocate put it, a “de facto First Growth.” It’s a collector-worthy wine that can anchor a cellar for decades.
