2022 Silver Ghost Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville

The northeast corner of Oakville, just south of where Skellenger Road bends north toward Beckstoffer’s Georges III Vineyard, is one of the holiest places in Napa Cabernet. 

Gargiulo’s Money Road Ranch is there. So are Meyer Family (from one of Silver Oak’s founding families), Groth, and Plumpjack. Just to the south sit O’Shaughnessy and Bond’s St. Eden. 

Fruit from this precious section of town gets funneled into Cabernets costing $200–$$600 per bottle—and it comes as no surprise to us that, of all people, Weston Eidson was able to score some for his 2022 Silver Ghost Cabernet. 

Eidson’s Silver Ghost has been a favorite for several years, but this is the first time we’ve been able to offer his Oakville bottling. He can’t name the source, but it’s a tiny vineyard in that sweet south-of-Skellenger spot that’s synonymous with collectible Cabernets. 

We already know this comes from not only one of the most prestigious neighborhoods in one of the most prestigious appellations in the Cabernet world. The winemaker is Weston Eidson, one of the most exciting talents in the North Coast, whose work bears the marks of his mentor, Napa Cabernet kingpin Russell Bevan. Bevan has authored a slew of Parker 100-point wines for his own Bevan Cellars, and Weston learned a lot at his side.

Now for the story to share with your friends: The name “Silver Ghost” is a reference to the 1909 Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost, the favorite car of John Montagu, Eidson’s great-grandfather. Montagu was a British Lord, a member of Parliament, and an early pioneer in the automobile industry. Montagu even picked the model whose form adorns the “Spirit of Ecstasy,” Rolls-Royce’s iconic hood ornament.
