Benoît Touquette is a household name among Wine Access devotees. He’s at the pinnacle of Napa winemaking, with seemingly countless 100-point scores to his name. His Cabernets can fetch between $300 and $1,300+ (seriously) per bottle.

That’s why we’re so thrilled to have a tiny allocation of Benoît’s 2021 Fait-Main Beckstoffer Missouri Hopper Cabernet. From a vintage that’s already gaining steam as a modern-day classic, this wine is bold, dark, and yet impossibly smooth for its power and complexity. Bearing all the hallmarks of prime Oakville terroir and Benoît’s masterful winemaking, it’s one of our favorite wines we’ve ever tasted from M. Touquette.

When Touquette left his home in Bordeaux for California’s Cabernet epicenter, he aimed for the top, so he positioned himself deftly alongside Andy Erickson at Ovid and Screaming Eagle. He also chose a stellar mentor in Michel Rolland—the world-famous consulting winemaker whose name is on 100-pointers by Harlan, Bond, and Araujo—and the men remain close to this day.

This 2021 marks only the second-ever vintage of Fait-Main from Andy Beckstoffer’s prized Missouri Hopper Vineyard. It’s a site that Benoît coveted for a long time, and his patience—and Benoît’s multiple 100-point wines from Beckstoffer’s other sites—finally paid off in 2019 (no 2020 was released).

The Missouri Hopper Vineyard was first planted well over a century ago by Yountville namesake George C. Yount in what’s now the beating heart of the Oakville AVA.  Ever since, the site has been renowned for the quality of the wines that come from there, which are filled with the intense dark fruit, spice, and lush tannins that are typical of the very best wines from the Oakville Bench.
