That’s all that was made of the 2021 Devil’s Well Cabernet: a mere 100 cases of dark, powerful Napa Cab that normally merits a $115 price-tag and flagship status on the winery’s website.

Devil’s Well is one of the smashing Cabernet successes of the past few years, with members  writing reviews like, “Exceptional cab. Tremendous value.”  So our Master Sommelier Sur Lucero was WAY on top of the 2021 vintage, and he landed a deal that is sure to keep this bottle in our Top 10 all year. 

Sourced from a top site in Napa that’s protected by an absolutely ironclad NDA, this wine boasts the power and intensity to wow collectors. The last edition thrilled Wine Access members to the tune of a 4.2 rating, and the 2021—from a vintage gaining a reputation as a modern classic—is even better!

Devil’s Well comes from a vineyard we’re not legally allowed to name. What we CAN tell you is that it’s a beautiful site, blessed with volcanic soils and cooling afternoon breezes that thicken grape skins and extend the growing season, allowing for maximum intensity to develop—which is how you end up with a powerful wine like the 2021 Devil’s Well Cabernet.

Aged in 50% new oak for 15 months to soften tannins and polish the rugged Cabernet to a luxurious shine, it’s easy to see why this bottle goes for triple digits at the winery. But owner Clay Shannon’s wines have been some of the most popular with our members over the last year, so we managed to get this allocation from him as a thank-you for our support. What a score!
