2021 Cherrier Père et Fils Les 7 Hommes Sancerre Loire

Our first introduction to Cherrier’s Les 7 Hommes came at Temporis, the MICHELIN-starred tasting-menu temple in Chicago. It was a Sancerre worthy of the high-end setting—crystalline and pure, featuring the depth and complexity we associate with the top names from the region.

We included it in our MICHELIN shipment with the restaurant—and for over a year, our MICHELIN subscribers were the only ones to get it. There wasn’t enough of it available to offer to all our members, but we loved it so much that we contacted the winery. And ever since we kicked off that relationship, we’ve been asking for a larger allocation.

With mouthwatering raciness and brightness drawn from the steep, sun-dappled, hilly vineyards of Amigny, it’s an in-the-know find from dream Sancerre terroir, not to mention a stunning value for a wine that can stand with the Boulays, Cotats, and Vacherons of the world.

Over four generations, the Cherrier family has developed the deep expertise required to craft distinct Sancerre bottlings from their 32 small, enviable plots. They allow the wine time to develop texture and complexity by aging it on the lees while also preserving its fruit vibrancy and mineral notes. 

The beverage director at Temporis who introduced us to this wine summed up its sophistication: It’s “less intense and more mineral-driven, making it food friendly,” he said. “It melds with flavors on the palate rather than competing or knocking them out.”
