2019 Louis Latour Clos Vougeot Grand Cru Burgundy

Louis Latour is the definition of a Wine Access member-favorite estate. Their centuries of experience in Burgundy have given the family unparalleled expertise in the cellar and unmatched access to prime vineyard land—and we’ve never had the chance to offer their Clos Vougeot, one of the grandest wines they make.

Latour’s Clos Vougeot is also one of the rarest wines they make: Only 75 cases make it into the US at all—just three barrels’ worth of wine—and they’re tussled over by top restaurants from coast to coast. 

Clos Vougeot is one of Burgundy’s most storied vineyards: It’s “Pinot Noir’s Grand Stage,” in the words of Wine Spectator, and Louis Latour has access to some of its best parcels. The 2019 vintage was outstanding, and this is “a bold, generous wine that has everything you expect from a Burgundy Grand Cru,” according to James Suckling. 

For us, passing through Burgundy without stopping at Louis Latour would be like visiting the Île de la Cité and ignoring Notre Dame. The family’s Château Corton-Grancey is the heart of the Maison. It’s where we’ve tasted, laughed, and celebrated with the Latour family—including the dearly missed Louis-Fabrice Latour—for more than two decades.

The warm, dry, truly great harvest of 2019 had one vigneron comparing it to the likes of the legendary 1865. Another, Philippe Pacalet, reached for the great string of vintages from 1945 to 1949 as a comparison. Despite the season’s abundance of sunshine, the wines are fresh and brisk, with impressive concentration. This sublime feat left Stuart Piggott, writing for James Suckling, declaring that the vintage “has hit the bullseye” with its “rare combination of excellence and great consistency.”
