Tensley’s Top Scoring Estate Blend
By now, the name Joey Tensley is in effect, a Wine Access household name, right up there with Matt Cline, Julien Fayard, Benoit Touquette, and Xavier Vignon. These are winemakers whose wines have consistently proven absolute favorites, and for proof—just look at the ratings.
Today’s 2017 Tensley “All Blocks” Estate Blend is only the second vintage of this wine that we’ve offered. The previous 2016 release racked up 4- and 5-star ratings that top out at an average of 4.25 out of 5 stars! One extremely happy client even wrote: “This wine is amazing! The nose is full of dark fruit and the taste is without parallel. I’m so happy with this purchase that I went ahead and bought the Tensley Syrah as well. Seek this wine out.”
Take that advice.
The 2017 Tensley All Blocks is just a baby, garnering a 93-95-point score from Dunnuck. A rich GSM blend, with fruit off the 1,400-foot-elevation Colson Canyon estate, brimming with dark fruit and herbs on a dense and structured core, All Blocks will be irresistible to the Wine Access Tensley loyalists among you. Calling it “voluptuous,” “with full-bodied richness,” Dunnuck considers the 2017 release a “great vintage for this cuvée,” and we wholeheartedly agree.
If you’re a Tensley fan, you’re already hitting buy. If you’re just tuning in, or if Tensely’s name is beginning to look familiar but you need a little more community consensus, here you go: His wines have landed on Wine Spectator’s Top 100 lists numerous times, and have been crowned with several near-perfect scores from Robert Parker. And Parker’s longtime Rhone expert, Jeb Dunnuck, credits Tensely for making some of the most “decadent yet balanced wines from Santa Barbara County,” adding “if you drink wine for pleasure, don’t miss these.”
