2016 Philippe Foreau Domaine du Clos Naudin Vouvray Sec Loire Valley

We’ve been working for some time to get this allocation of Philippe Foreau’s Vouvray from Clos Naudin. This is without a doubt one of the world’s great white wines, and because it is exceptionally affordable for a wine of its quality, demand is intense. Especially in great vintages like 2016, the challenge is always finding enough—if you can get any at all. 

Vinous called it “absolutely thrilling” in their 95-point review… but we don’t think that fully captures the greatness of this wine. 

Vouvray does not come with more intensity, power, elegance, and precision than those produced by Philippe Foreau, and this is a perfect example—one that will age as well as any white wine out there. We’ve had the chance to try old bottles of Foreau that date back to the 1930’s, and they remain some of the most profound vinous experiences we’ve ever had.

Philippe Foreau is the third generation in his family to farm the small, twelve-hectare Domaine du Clos Naudin, which is perfectly situated on some of the most coveted land in Vouvray. Their vineyards enjoy ideal south-east and south-west exposures in the middle of their slope—perfect for ripening notoriously fickle Chenin Blanc. To ensure perfect ripeness, Philippe and his team make multiple picking passes through each block of the vineyard.
