Greg Burns’ viticultural bloodline stretches five generations, back to when his family started growing grapes in the 1880s. One secret that has passed from generation to generation is that Zinfandel performs best when it is “bush-trained” — untamed and unfettered, resembling a gnarly and wild bush. And 40- to 100-year-old ungrafted bush-trained vines yield some of the most intensely complex, natural expressions of Zinfandel. The proof is in this decadent and layered Baron Cooper.
