Year after year, demand for Cristom is through the roof. Considered by many to be Oregon’s all-time greatest Pinot house, their estate wines compete with top-end Burgundy for elegance and finesse. In 2019, Cristom made the list of Wine & Sprits’ Top 100 Wineries and Wine Spectator’s Top 100 Wines.
Thanks to our long-standing relationship with this illustrious winery, you get the best price in the nation for the exclusive passion project from second-generation Cristom owner and co-winemaker Tom Gerrie at $24—a whopping 47% off SRP.
On our last visit with Tom, he casually mentioned that he’d started his own project in 2008. Of course, we were intrigued—and with the first sip of the 2014 Thomas Gerrie Eola-Amity Hills Pinot, we recognized the pedigree that has made Cristom one of Oregon’s “top names” (in the words of Decanter ): It’s got an earth-driven nose laced with dried red fruits, which segues into a mouthwatering palate of bright cherry, cranberry, and berry licorice. With mineral finesse and a long finish of tea-like tannins, this is top-flight Willamette Valley all the way.
Tom’s reasons for his side project are simple:“This is my heart. This is my passion. I’m in love with this business.” When he offered us a piece of the minuscule production to share with our members, it was a no-brainer.
Tom Gerrie (who has made wine in Australia with Decanter’s Man of the Year Brian Croser, and in Meursault and Alsace) is pulling in his connections to source the fruit for his namesake bottling from the top vineyards in Eola-Amity hills. This vineyard super-pack includes Cristom’s very own Eileen Vineyard (which produces Pinots that retail for $70 and up) plus the own-rooted Eola Springs Vineyard, the stunningly steep Tunkalilla Vineyard, and Feltz—a vineyard site owned by Cristom’s former vineyard manager Mark Feltz.
Often winemaker pet projects come at a premium due to their low quantity. We’re still amazed by this incredible deal from the man behind one of the most superlative houses in Oregon’s world-class Pinot country. With this level of quality for a wine that would normally be double the price, this very limited offering is likely to disappear every bit as quickly as the other wines from the family.
