Think about the oldest bottle of wine you’ve ever tried, or even a fairly old bottle. If the experience was beyond memorable—as in, you had an answer immediately, and could recall every detail—then you already know what it will be like to secure this 2000 Château Lynch-Bages.

Just three years ago, in December of 2015, Wine Spectator published a review proclaiming that the then-15-year-old beauty was, “Long and authoritative, with notes of bay, pepper, leather and juniper slowly emerging on the finish. Terrific structure and integration give this a chiseled feel,” and pinned on 96 points. Higher still was Robert Parker at 97 points, who stands in awe of this vintage (he’s upgraded it now twice) last calling it “full-bodied with velvety tannins that have resolved themselves beautifully over the last eleven years,” with “admirable purity, texture, mouthfeel and power combined with elegance,” before concluding that it is “one of the all-time great examples of Lynch-Bages,” that will drink beautifully until sometime near 2040! He wasn’t kidding. Now with 18 years of bottle age, showing marvelous Left Bank complexity, this is wine that still has decades of drinking pleasure to go.

We have a very limited allocation that recently arrived in our temperature controlled warehouse, direct from the cellars in Pauillac, in perfect condition and provenance.

Thanks to owner Jean-Charles Cazes (and his father Jean-Michel before him) and chief winemaker Daniel Llose, Château Lynch-Bages has revealed itself to be one of the most consistently excellent wines of Pauillac on the Left Bank of Bordeaux. Lynch-Bages wines have shown no noticeable weaknesses in the last three decades and, while officially classified as a Fifth Growth, professionals and enthusiasts consider it more a “Super Second.”

Lynch-Bages is always seductive, direct, and generous with ample fruit and sweetness. In infancy, however, it is a discreet wine. This 2000 Lynch-Bages is just beginning to strut its stuff.
