For exquisite rosé, nowhere in the world can top the South of France. In the South of France, you can’t beat Provence—and within Provence, one AOC stands head and shoulders above all others.
That AOC is Bandol, hands-down the most prestigious rosé appellation in the world.
Bandol, which Jancis Robinson’s World Atlas of Wine calls “the most admired appellation on France’s Mediterranean coast,” is home to a who’s who of Rosé greats, from Domaine Tempier and Domaines Ott to Pibarnon, Gros ‘Noré, Bastide Blanche, and more. These exquisite wines, grown on south-facing terraces in a flawless climate buffeted by Mediterranean breezes, boast not only outstanding quality, but outlier prices. At the low end, they’re about $30. At the top, Tempier and Ott command nearly $60 per bottle!
That’s why we jumped to claim the exclusive on the 2023 Domaine Vigneret. This outstanding find shows all the power and complexity of Bandol rosé, at an incredible price.
Domaine Vigneret and their proprietor Olivier Pascal are deeply rooted in Bandol. Pascal’s family has been in the area since 1535, and his grandfather was one of the founders of the Bandol appellation, which has had AOC status since 1942. Pascal inherited an outstanding terroir comprising rich clay, and established the domaine in 2017.
Olivier’s rosé comprises Mourvèdre, CInsault, Grenache, and Carignon harvested and sorted by hand. Pressed cold and settled at cool temperatures, the wine fermented for 15 days between 16 and 18 degrees centigrade. Malolactic was blocked, and the elevage took place in stainless steel tanks.
A classic Bandol, this is a beautiful rosé from the top appellation on the globe. It’s a must-have for warm-weather sipping, aperitifs, and happy hours.
