Rhône lovers will know that a deep discount on top-tier Châteauneuf-du-Pape is practically unheard of. But with two Grand Veneur sellouts already on the Wine Access books, we were able to secure a remarkable 33% off this superstar wine. Whether you are a serious collector or a novice waiting for the right moment to ascend to the pinnacle of Châteauneuf, this is for you… for as long as our cases last.
The 2017 Grand Veneur Vieilles Vignes is an outrageously luscious blend of Grenache, Mourvèdre, and Syrah from the oldest vines on the estate. The bold black raspberry, black currant, black cherry, and plum notes are immensely rich, and accented by layer upon layer of graphite, scorched earth, cracked black pepper, leather, and tar.
Jeb Dunnuck was mesmerized, calling the 2017 “a thrill a minute, and while it’s approachable today, it will keep for 15-20 years.” As Parker’s Wine Advocate wrote, Veneur is “one of the most brilliant estates in Châteauneuf-du-Pape,” adding: “these are some of the most exciting wines coming out of the region and they should not be missed!” It should come as no surprise that our past Grand Veneur offers have all resulted in sell-outs.
The lineup from fifth-generation winemaker Alain Jaume and his children Sébastian, Christophe, and Hélène includes brilliant cuvées like Le Miocene and Les Origines, but it was Jeb Dunnuck’s “bigger, richer, more opulent” Vieilles Vignes that had us pumping the breaks on our last trip.
