2014 Domaine de La Cote Pinot Noir Sta. Rita Hills

Domaine de la Côte is perhaps California’s most talked about fine Pinot Noir, and the buzz is only getting louder with the release of this 2014 masterpiece. Decanter pinned on 97 points naming it their top Californian Pinot Noir of the 2014 vintage. “Outstanding,” says Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate of La Côte. “A fascinating young winery to follow,” says Vinous’ Antonio Galloni.  The superstar duo at the helm — Rajat Parr, author, sommelier and one of America’s most famous vignerons, and Sashi Moorman, the ingenious winemaker at Stolpman Vineyards — have mesmerized wine directors in Michelin-Starred restaurants throughout America.

2013 Jonata Todos Proprietary Red Wine Ballard Canyon

The owners of Screaming Eagle, Napa Valley’s iconic $1,500 Cabernet, have made their mark in Santa Barbara: Winemaker Matt Dees’s Jonata has flirted with perfection, with eight wines over 97 points from Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate. The 2013 Jonata “Todos” earned a “smokin’” 94 points from the Advocate and 95 points from James Suckling, who called the wine “complex and fantastic,” “layered and gorgeous.” Dense, opulent, with beautiful silky texture, packed with blue- and black-fruit preserves, our past Santa Barbara offerings from this team have flown out the door, so don’t miss out on our limited allocation of “Todos.”

2013 Casa E. di Mirafiore Barolo

This 2013 Barolo earned 96 points — the highest score awarded by 65 Masters of Wine and 20 Master Sommeliers at the Decanter World Wine Awards earlier this year. Judged amongst a total of 17,200 entries at the world’s largest and most prestigious wine competition, the perfumed and structured 2013 Casa E. di Mirafiore Barolo with all its royal heritage stood out. Wine Access clients snapped up our allocation of Casa E. di Mirafiore Barolo in a flash last year, and demand is even higher with the vintage that Robert Parker rates as Barolo’s best since 2010. James Sucklingcompares the structure of 2013 Barolos to the excellent 2010s, but calls 2013 more “refined and focused,” “consistent in quality,” and possibly the best vintage since 2008. Antonio Galloni agrees, noting remarkable “finesse and grace,” and a “sheer thrill factor.” See for yourself what all the fuss is about.

2014 Orin Swift Papillon Red Wine

The 2014 Orin Swift Papillon earned 94 points from Robert Parker, who called it a “full-bodied, unctuously textured, deep, rich pure wine to drink over the next 10-15+ years.”  Phinney — the founder and winemaker of Orin Swift and the original creator of “The Prisoner” — is one of the great winemaking talents of our time. Parker has raved of Phinney’s talents, saying, “Orin Swift is the brainchild of a brilliant young man by the name of Dave Phinney. His Midas touchwith grapes from seemingly anywhere in the world, is unusual, but the brilliance of the wines, his creativeness and unparalleled blending talents have built an incredible portfolio right out of the gate.” We agree with Parker who goes on to say, “Readers looking for personality filled wines of considerable character and complexity need to check out the Orin Swift offerings.” Phinney remains entirely hands on at Orin Swift, making these wines from beginning to end and on a daily basis. 2014 Three Wine Company Zinfandel Mazzoni Live Oak Contra Costa County

Zin master Matt Cline has a penchant for preserving the oldest, most significant Zinfandel vineyards in America. When translated to bottle, these historic sites, yield dramatic offerings, loaded with class and lush, dark-berry fruit. The 92-point “Mazzoni” Live Oak Zinfandel is case in point. Sourced from 120-year-old vines in Contra Costa, the 2014 “Mazzoni” is one of the most spectacularly concentrated, ethereally complex Zins we’ve tasted. Wine Enthusiast called it “decadently rich,” with a “velvety texture.” We call it American history.

Louis Roederer NV Brut Premier Champagne

At the Institute of Masters of Wine’s annual Champagne Tasting this past September, our Master Wine team tried roughly 200 world-class Champagnes. When it was over, they determined Louis Roederer NV Brut to be the best multi-vintage brut by far. Wine Spectator, James Suckling, and Wine Enthusiast back this assessment: Each crowned the legendary label 92 points, calling it “elegant,” boasting “impressive build and a nicely honed textural thread,” and praising its “white fruits and crisp acidity as well as mineral texture,” respectively. But these scores only partially point to its excellence. Jancis Robinson calls it “arguably the most reliable non-vintage champagne of them all.” Robert Parker considers it “a classic,” noting its brilliance is “not just influenced by the blending of varietals…but the characteristics of every single plot.” This outstanding Champagne culls two-thirds of this influence from notable Cru and Premier Cru estate grapes — a tactic that affords chef de cave and 2015 Wine Enthusiast Winemaker of the Year Jean-Baptiste Lecaillon pinpoint control of how its shaped. This precision produces an exquisite study of depth and complexity befitting of one of the globe’s most cherished champagne houses.

2016 LIOCO Chardonnay Sonoma County

Named one of Wine & Spirits “Top 100 Wineries of the Year” LIOCO is the product of founders Matt Licklider and Kevin O’Connor who are fueled by a relentless search for meticulously farmed cool-climate vineyards in the Sonoma Coast.LIOCO reigns at Danny Meyer’s The Modern and Union Square Cafe. We caught wind of a blind tasting that took place earlier this year, hosted by a group of Meyer’s somms in which this 2016 LIOCO Sonoma County Chardonnay came out on top — crushing 14 other American Chardonnays and earning a coveted by-the-glass placement. There is simply no better Burgundian-styled mineral-driven California Chardonnay for the price.

2014 Nichols Cabernet Sauvignon Rutherford Napa Valley

After tasting Britt Nichols’ 2013 Rutherford Cab, we didn’t think the young enologist could climb much higher. Then came 2014, the year Wine Spectator called a “dream vintage,” and Robert Parker deemed, “excellent.” Squared up against it’s older sibling, Britt’s 2014 gets the nod. Tasted in a lineup of Rutherford heavyweights with higher profiles and much higher price tags, Britt’s 2014 still holds its own. That’s because it’s made from the same heavyweight fruit — a historic vineyard just a stone’s throw from Caymus and Staglin. As Britt told us, “Cabernet bottlings from this estate reach $125…easily.”

2016 Domaine Raimbault-Pineau Sancerre

The Domaine Raimbault-Pineau is our favourite Sancerre of 2016 so far, and the most mouthwatering and mineral-driven we’ve encountered from the vintage. All the experience of an incredible ten generations of grape-growers goes into this masterfully crafted Sauvignon Blanc. Drawn off vines rooted in the famous chalky-clay and limestone soils of Raimbault-Pineau’s pristine vineyards, the wine is rich and juicy on the attack with a stony austerity and intense minerality braced by a fine acid backbone.

Langlois-Chateau Crémant de Loire Brut

When a revered Champagne house like Bollinger heads to the Loire Valley to produce a sparkling wine to Champagne standards — without Champagne’s hefty price tag — the result is a gem like Langlois-Château’s Crémant de Loire Brut. Even though the Bollinger family isn’t beholden to following the “méthode champenoise” tradition with this label, they choose to deploy the technique to a melange of Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay, and Cabernet Franc anyway. The result is a brilliant bubbly for the masses.
