2016 Favia La Magdalena Red Wine Napa Valley

La Magdalena, which consists of 55% Cabernet Franc and 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, is sourced from what Annie and Andy call one of their favorite sites, Oakville Ranch in the rugged eastern hills of the Oakville AVA. They’ve worked for more than a decade with the organically farmed, iron-rich vineyard, which produces grapes that show off Oakville’s distinct power and vivacity. 

Thick and viscous with perfectly ripe blueberry and currant wafting from the glass, it’s got a palate of rich blackberry and blueberry, followed by a lingering graphite-tinged finish. The pristine balance and high complexity didn’t just dazzle us, but the critics too: Jeb Dunnuck called it “a gorgeous wine,” and Antonio Galloni summed it up as “superb.” Destined for a long life in the cellar.
