2020 Domaine du Grand Tinel Chateauneuf du Pape Tradition

Domaine du Grand Tinel was established in 1846 when Alexis Establet acquired the first vineyards. In the 1960s, Elie Jeune married into the family and helped make the estate what it is today. The Jeune siblings—Christophe, Béatrice, and Isabelle—continue to make Châteauneuf-du-Pape just as their father did. Painstaking care is taken in the vineyards and in the cave, complete with hand-harvesting and hand-sorting of the fruit.

In 2020 the Jeunes harnessed the kind of dense, ruby-hued power that led Dunnuck to declare their Chateauneuf-du-Pape Tradition “rock-solid and shines on all accounts…This is one classic, seriously impressive base cuvée worth your time and money.”

A triangulation of vine, vintage, and grape created the extraordinary richness and complexity this 2020 CDP star delivers. Some of the vines in this cuvée are a staggering 120 years in age—low in productivity, yet filling their fruit with monumental concentration and nuances captured by roots that have descended dozens of feet underground.

We were so blown away by this wine that when they asked how many bottles we’d like, we replied: “All we can get.” Built to cruise at least a decade in the cellar, this bombshell Rhône will evolve beautifully, but it’s also in stellar drinking shape today.
