Every time we’ve offered winemaker Bill Knuttel’s wines, the feedback has been the same: Members call and email us with stories about how they’re reminded how much they love Zin every time they pop the cork on one of his bottles. It makes sense: Dry Creek Valley is widely considered to be the sweet spot for Zinfandel in California, and Biglieri Vineyard, where the vines are more than 50 years old, grows some of the best.

Knuttel’s Ottimino Zinfandels have earned over 500 5-star member ratings on Wine Access and high praise from the most important critics in the country. The 2015 Ottimino Zinfandel Biglieri Vineyard Dry Creek Valley is arguably his best release yet. 

The 2015 Ottimino Zinfandel Biglieri Vineyard has the plush berry and cherry notes of Russian River Valley Pinot Noir, and a softer mouthfeel than Napa Cab but all of its length, and the exuberant spice of classic Dry Creek Zin. With cherry pie and brown spice aromas paving the way for a palate that’s bursting with spicy blackberry, licorice, and cola nut, in a style that’s more restrained and structured than most Dry Creek Zins.It’s the complete package, the embodiment of the best of California reds. 

Knuttel had so much faith in the potential of Pio Biglieri’s vineyard that, when word got out in 2005 that the previous grape contract was about to end, he went there himself and offered 50% more than Pio’s former client had been paying.

It was a brilliant investment: The partnership between Bill and Pio has been going strong ever since. Biglieri’s fruit features prominently in Bill’s Sonoma County blends, and takes center stage in this magnificent 2015 bottling. It brings together everything that makes California reds such standouts around the world, and promises to be yet another hit among our members.
