Bucci’s standout Verdicchio has quickly developed a line-out-the-door status among Wine Access members, who clean us out of each new release as soon as we hit “send.” 

After last year’s 2018 scored 95 points, we didn’t think a Bucci wine could sell out any faster. However…now that the 2019 boasts a matching 95-point score plus Editors’ Choice honors, there’s no doubt another sellout is imminent. 

Crisp, voluminous, and complex, this 95-point gem tops some of the estate’s $50+ Riserva bottlings. Luckily, we secured our allocation before that score was published and locked up this one-of-a-kind white.

Verdicchio from Marche’s prestigious Castelli di Jesi sub-region has been called the “White Barolo” because it’s complex, profoundly aromatic, and ageworthy—a true noble in the court of Italian viticulture.

This Verdicchio is a revelation of dry Italian elegance that justifies the nickname. Aged in large, old oak barrels, it has a lush, round creaminess that will drive Chardonnay drinkers to distraction. A marriage of clean herbal freshness and seductive stone-fruit aromatics supported by wet-stone minerality makes for a richer, more complex Verdicchio than you’ll find almost anywhere else.

Winemaker Ampelio Bucci believes that Verdicchio vines don’t really begin producing wines of distinction until they reach 20 years old. The vines used for this wine boast 37 years on average, with roots digging deep into the clay-limestone soils of four low-yielding vineyards. Farming is 100% organic, allowing the mineral nuance of the terroir to shine through.
