2013 Martin Ranch Pinot Noir R*E*D Vineyard 56% off. Time to break a vow…
When we signed on for this gig, we swore we’d never do this. We’d never “cede authority to a buy box!”
Today, it’s time to break our vow.
After four straight short-harvest vintages from 2008 to 2011, California was rewarded with three consecutive bumper harvests. Drought conditions prevailed in 2012 and 2013, making for a bountiful crop of ultra-rich Pinot Noir, still braced by firm acidity.
For those with deep pockets, 2012 and 2013 quickly repaired tattered balance sheets, filling cellars to the brim with some of the richest, darkest Pinot Noirs in a decade. But for the less well-heeled, the sheer size of the two harvests proved problematic. With more wine in the cellar than barrels to house it, some of the top boutique producers on the coast were obliged to turn gorgeous Pinot Noir into hard cash. Many — like Martin Ranch — called WineAccess.
The 2013 Martin Ranch Pinot Noir R*E*D Vineyard is vivid ruby. Gorgeous aromas of raspberry, black cherry, and violets, tinged with sweet spice. Rich, juicy, and high-toned on the attack, filled with crushed-red-fruit preserves and a hint of lavender, finishing with terrific persistence and Santa Cruz Mountains vibrancy. Drink now-2018.
$32 on release. Just $14 per bottle this morning — as WineAccess turns 960 bottles of Martin Ranch Pinot Noir into much-needed cash. Shipping included on 6.
P.S. If you’re a Pinot Noir enthusiast, this is a STEAL.
