Cristom’s Darkest, Most Perfectly Structured Pinot Noir
If you love single-vineyard Oregon Pinot Noir, it doesn’t get any better than this.
The reputation of Cristom Vineyards in the Willamette Valley is nearly unequaled.
The wines have made five appearances on the Wine Spectator Top 100 in the last decade. Decanter has titled them “Top Oregon Pinot.”In its annual restaurant poll, Wine & Spirits found that Cristom was the “#1 Pinot Noir on restaurant wine lists in America.” Demand is off the charts, our offers often selling out within an afternoon.
In what Wine Spectator termed the “extraordinary” 2015 vintage, owner Tom Gerrie and winemaker Steve Doerner earned matching 94-point scores from Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate and Vinous for their most dynamic single-vineyard Pinot Noir. Scented with bing cherry, raspberry, and sandalwood, silky tannins framing the layered, earthy core, this bottle hails from the iconic Louise Vineyard, the winery’s original planting.
Tom Gerrie, the owner and winegrower of Cristom Vineyards, was raised on the Willamette Valley estate from the age of 8, working the land and absorbing the lessons of his father, Paul. The elder Gerrie purchased the property in 1992 and planted his first vineyard the following year, naming it after his maternal grandmother, Louise. The site had something no other part of the property could boast: a hillside location with incredible soil diversity.
The “upper” portion of Louise is packed with mineral-rich, well-draining Columbia River Basalt soils, yielding some of the winery’s most mature and nuanced fruit. The “lower” half of Louise is composed of sedimentary rocks and silt loam, lending stony complexity. In combination with cool nights and Pacific breezes blowing through the Van Duzer Corridor, this 9-acre plot yields some of Eola-Amity Hills’ most gorgeous fruit. The Louise Vineyard Pinot is often the darkest and most perfectly structured of the Cristom line-up.
