2016 Domaine Jean Grivot Clos Vougeot Grand Cru

The 2016 Clos Vougeot Grand Cru is a Burgundian powerhouse that is broad and expansive in its youth, which will realize more sophistication in the years ahead. Domaine Jean Grivot owns 4.6 acres of the prized middle portion of this Grand Cru with an average vine age of 40 years. This wine tends to be one of the more muscular and powerful bottlings from the estate, while still retaining beautiful tones of damp earth and floral notes.

The Grivot family has been rooted in Vosne for five generations, today winemaker Etienne destems all of his fruit in an effort to tame the “brutality” that Pinot Noir stems can contribute to the wine, opting instead for reds with more finesse and fleshy fruit character.  He doesn’t overcompensate with heavy oak use either, with roughly 25% new wood used in this wine. The wines embody polish, finesse, and energy, sans “brutality”.
