2020 La Pitchoune Chardonnay La Revolte Sonoma Coast

La Pitchoune’s wines easily qualify as some of the most insider-y bottles in Sonoma.

Produced in minuscule quantities—just seven barrels were made of the 2020 La Révolte Chardonnay—and sourced from some of the most coveted sites in Sonoma, they’re rare birds swooned over by locals, and they rarely leave the North Coast.

Sonoma Magazine called them “one of the most coveted producers in Sonoma County” and MICHELIN-starred restaurants like The French Laundry and SingleThread Farms have put La Pitchoune on their lists. 

The grapes come from the legendary Pratt Vineyard, near Sebastopol, and Falcon Crest—both in some of the most coveted real estate in the “true Sonoma Coast.” Our members absolutely adore La Pitchoune’s wines, so we jumped at the chance to buy up as much as we could get of their 2020 La Révolte.

La Révolte is a point of pride for co-founder Tracy Nielsen, who has, from La Pitchoune’s very first vintage nearly a decade ago, insisted on working only with small farmers. 

“We’re pretty obsessed with terroir,” Tracy told us the first time we tasted her wines. “To me, if you’re going to call something Sonoma Coast, I have an expectation of what that should taste like, as opposed to Russian River Valley or Sonoma Mountain.” 

Drinking the 2020, it’s pretty clear that Tracy achieved her goal: The wine has the dramatic tension between ripeness and acidity that’s a hallmark of the Sonoma Coast’s best. Aging in high-quality French oak—though only a small fraction is new—for over a year added a little extra luxury and allowed the texture to turn into silk. This wine just oozes class and poise.
